Royah’s collections are inspired by Afghanistan’s rich culture and textiles. Historically, as part of the silk route, Afghanistan formed the link between East and West. The country’s silk was once lauded as among the finest in the world. Sadly, decades of war robbed Afghanistan of this once fabled industry. Ancient intricate embroidery patterns were also lost. Now, Royah - employing the skills of Afghan women - is working to reclaim these ancient handicrafts by using local fabrics, including precious handmade silks and cottons, and the expertise of local artisans. |
